About Our Work in Public Spaces

Town & County Parks Playgrounds

Playgrounds for Town & County Parks

Here at Asheville Playgrounds we often work with town and county parks and recreation departments to install new play spaces. We are proud of our civic works and love to install playgrounds for new parks. Our unique playgrounds have made a tremendous difference in civic spaces and brought hundreds of people to new parks. We understand that your town or county parks and recs division works with a specific budget and space requirement.

Because we build with wood, our material costs are lower. Thus our community playgrounds for parks are less expensive than conventional metal post and platform designs. And since each playground is custom designed for you, we can pack a lot of play into a small space. We will collaborate with your landscape architect to bring as much fun as we can to the area. Our natural and themed playgrounds fit well into a forested town or county park setting.

Playgrounds for Subdivisions and Developments

We frequently enjoy collaborating with landscape architects on playgrounds in subdivisions and developments. The playground can be built as large as you can imagine, or designed in stages to meet your yearly budget. Whether you already have a concept  or just know that you need a playground, we will meet your need, style, goal and budget. We work to incorporate all applicable safety guidelines set forth by the ASTM and CPSC. In addition to custom wood playgrounds, we occasionally install pre-designed metal post and platform playgrounds from 2 different manufacturers.

Playgrounds for Existing Apartment Complexes

Adding a playground to your apartments will enhance their appeal and value, especially to families with children. Apartment complex playgrounds provide a secure and convenient outdoor play area, offering a safe alternative to playing in dangerous streets or parking lots.

Playgrounds for Schools

At Asheville Playgrounds we know that schools often have limited budgets and big dreams. We find that Montessori, Waldorf and Charter schools are often drawn to our reasonably priced and creative play spaces. Play is a crucial part of child development and at Asheville Playgrounds that’s one of our primary visions. Being able to burn off some energy in the middle of the day is extremely important and free-form play is great for the mind. By using wood and natural materials, we are able to reduce costs for tight school budgets and build within the footprint of your choosing. Our mission is to maximize play per square foot as well as adhering to strict safety guidelines.

Playgrounds for Campgrounds

Camps and campgrounds are great locations for a natural playground, and a fun, compact design with lots of slides and climbers. If you are looking for an alternative to a “straight out of the catalog, no changes allowed” mindset, contact Asheville Playgrounds. We will coordinate with you to fulfill your needs and stay within budget every step of the way.

How to Get Started

Generally we get a call or email from a town or county parks and recs director or landscape architect. If the construction site is within an hour of Asheville, we’re happy to perform an on-site visit by co-owner and Certified Playground Safety Inspector Evelyn Anderson. She will travel to you site and get a feel for the space, meet with all the folks involved, and review the needs of the park. If you’re a bit further, we’re able and experienced at working with you on the phone, via plans, email and photographs.

From there we start designing a play area specifically for the space and needs of the community while fitting into those tight civic budgets. We do not shy away from custom and unique projects, and as you can see from our gallery we love bringing exciting changes to new areas. Our playgrounds are often the talk of the town, so if you want your town talking about all the great work you’re doing, get in touch!
